Steam levels are bought with badges, and badges are made from complete trading-card sets. Cards either come from playtime in games you already own or from the Community Market, so every level has both a time cost and a money cost. These calculators let you compare the two before you commit: see how many sets a target level needs, then see how many hours of idling it would take to farm the drops you already have sitting unclaimed.
